We were a group of friends, 6 couples, who wanted to spend a weekend together. Gitcombe House was perfect!
It is tucked away in a scenic valley and yet local pubs and the Dart River are easily accessible by foot.
We received a warm welcome from Peter and his gorgeous retriever, Wilson.
The house is magnificent, fit for kings and queens! The dining room table was beautifully set for a banquet. The bedrooms were spacious with comfy beds and crisp linen.
We thoroughly enjoyed all of the facilities-tennis, jacuzzi, and indoor and outdoor pools.
Thoroughly recommend the dining-in option with chefs Charlie and Dan who cooked for us on Saturday night. The food was outstanding and it made it a very special occasion.
Can’t recommend Gitcombe highly enough.
We returned for the 3rd year running to Gitcombe for our family summer holiday. There are not enough positive words to describe Gitcombe and the holiday it provides for us each year. Pete and Rodney are so friendly and on-site all the time to chat with us and attend to any needs. Our cottage had everything we needed in it and the pools and play area provided a sanctuary of adventure right on our doorstep. We’ve relaxed, BBQ’d, swam, walked and feel ready to join real life once again! Thank you Gitcombe for another wonderful stay.
We had a perfect week in Devon, a beautiful area with lots of activities to enjoy. Gitcombe was our home away from home and I don’t think that there has been a day that we didn’t use the pool at some point in the day. We’ll be back one day, I’m sure! The cottage was lovely and clean and just perfect for what we needed.
We stayed in Gitcombe Retreat, one of the many wonderful holiday homes on the estate at Gitcombe. The Retreat is a terrific purpose-built residence suitable for four couples and two infants. It cannot be faulted and the owners have spared no expense to make it a luxury base from which to explore South Hams, as well as having two pools- one indoor, one outdoor, again designed for a family or two to splash around.
We have stayed at Gitcombe before and enjoyed the facilities of the Garden House. With the Retreat now added, the owners have surpassed expectations. We loved it and would love to come again if possible.
We have had an incredible week at Gitcombe staying in the Meavy with our two teenagers. The setting is stunning, the accommodation exceptionally clean and the facilities first class, we did not want to leave! Everything has been thought through and provided to make your stay effortless. The area is beautiful with so much to do for all ages. The beaches are lovely, and Dartmouth is very picturesque with lots of little shops and eateries. The location is perfect to explore further afield too. Although, with the stunning pools and tennis court on your doorstep, we did spend a few days just relaxing and enjoying what Gitcombe has to offer, followed by a stroll to the local pub for dinner. Truly a magical place thanks to the owners for their continued efforts in keeping the whole complex to such a high standard. Could not have wished for better, we will be back!
We have just returned from a 2 week stay in Haytor cottage and had a wonderful holiday (2 adults and kids 9 &12)! The location is great as it feels like the middle of nowhere with only the sounds of birds and cows and no traffic! At the same time Totnes and Dartmouth are close enough to find supermarkets, shops, restaurants and the beaches around this part of Devon are lovely and vary from 20-45min drive away. We also visited Paignton zoo, the Golden Hind, Totnes and Dartmouth castles. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well stocked (even cling film/foil/washing machine tabs) and it did feel like home from home. Our dishwasher stopped working during our stay and Emma and Rodney immediately addressed this and and engineer was called asap and fixed. The facilities are also very clean and superb and our kids loved that there was an indoor and outdoor pool, sauna and hot tub along with a playpark and tennis court. The facilities were top class and I would thoroughly recommend a stay here and may well return at some point too! Oh and also a walk to the Maltsters is so nice as the food and service were great and the walk lovely there and back!
Our family of 4 (kids aged 5 & 8) enjoyed an idyllic long weekend at Gitcombe and have already recommended it to many friends and family. The estate is beautifully maintained, stylish and luxurious. The kids would have spent the whole time flitting between the indoor pool, hot tub, outdoor pool and play area if we’d let them but we did manage to lure them away a few times and enjoyed a fun-filled day at Woodlands Adventure Park (only 8mins away in the car) and a fabulous fresh seafood lunch overlooking the boats at the Anchorstone Cafe in super pretty Dittisham – An absolute MUST on a sunny day – It’s quicker to drive but much more fun if you make a ‘day of it’ and catch the scenic ferry to/from Dartmouth. We’ve stayed in lots of ‘Baby-Friendly Boltholes’ but Gitcombe is definitely a winner! The kids are begging to go back ASAP.
What an incredible place! My little one didn’t want to come home. We spent a lot of time around the cottage due to the two amazing pools, hot tub, sauna and play areas.
The cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed for a 3 and 1 year old (cot, changing mat, high chair, toddler toilet seat, bed guard and baby bath).
There was even buckets, tennis rackets and crabbing equipment to borrow.
Peter and Emma were so helpful, we will definitely be back!
Our third time at Gitcombe didn’t disappoint. We stayed in Meavy Barn, which sleeps 4 and overlooks the tennis court and children’s park. As usual the facilities were exceptional, communications from Emma and Peter were superb and the location was idyllic paradise. Despite the storms and lack of foliage in bloom, it’s still a beautiful area of the country with tons to do. We went to Totnes, Dartington Hall’s Barn Cinema, Dartmouth, Kingswear and the steam train to Paignton, as well as a trip to Dartmoor. All were great days out. Meals at The Cott Inn and Bayards Cove Inn were excellent too. I cannot recommend highly enough.
An amazing stay in the Retreat last week! We originally booked this for a long weekend last year to celebrate our parents 70th birthday. You were so accommodating then & agreed happily to adding an extra bed for our 3-generation family of nine! Then when covid rules meant we couldn’t come last April you were again excellent in supporting us to change the date! We changed it to a week instead in February half term & what a fabulous week we had! Gitcombe Retreat is a beautiful property, just stunning! It was comfortable & luxurious & has everything you needed for a relaxing break. The pool & hot tub are fab, super clean & the daily booking system worked brilliantly! We swam every day! Tennis courts, play area & suggested local country walks were also well used by all the family.
Not much more to say than this was one of the best holiday we have ever spent as a family. The Retreat is a dream, just an amazing attention to detail. We loved every minute. Emma, Peter and Rodney are the perfect host and always available. I could return to stay there without hesitation and will be back as soon as I can. THANK YOU TEAM GITCOMBE!
Booked Gitcombe House and Yennadon for 7 couples. From the initial booking to the farewell, our experience of Gitcombe was very professional and efficient. Emma went over and beyond to ensure everything was organised and went well. She was just a phone call away and full of information to make our stay enjoyable. The grounds are truly immaculate, a real piece of heaven. Thank you to the whole team. From the fresh flowers around the house and cottage to the locally produced goodies in the kitchen and the cleanliness, it truly was breath taking. My suggestion is if you want to book 2 days add another day for you might not want to leave.
