This beautiful, unspoilt part of Devon remains ever popular with young families. With less flexibility to take children out of school, lower exchange rates and the hastle of taking littles ones abroad, Devon is in even greater demand.
So if you've not already done so, now is the time to plan your breaks for 2010, to ensure that you secure your preferred property, on your preferred date? The Garden House is already filling fast for all the school holidays.
September is also very popular with those not tied to the school holidays. It's perfect for couples too, as the weather is usually great, with less people around, and all the local attractions, including National Trust properties, still open. In fact it's such a popular month, it's usually fully booked by the end of spring, so if you are thinking of an early autumn break, don't leave it too late to book that either. Please note, our smaller family properties always the first to go!

Janica and Sangha, two stunningly beautiful female giraffes, have come to forage at nearby Paignton's fabulous environmental zoo.  They will be keeping lonely Yoda, the zoo's four year old male giraffe, company.
The three giraffes are all extremely rare Rothschild's or Baringo giraffes, and sadly are on the endangered species list, as very few are now left in the wild.
Paignton Zoo opens all year round, so why not come and bring the children to see these elegant creatures? You'll also get to see the zoo's crocodiles, camels, monkeys, elephants, snakes and a host of other lovely creatures!

Up the creek with a paddle!

Well not quite. Ever wanted to take to the water and try kayaking? Then why not grasp the opportunity to jump in a kayak - canoe - and go off for a paddle, with a paddle.
 
Dartmouth Yacht Club's canoe section provides not only an experienced instructor, but the kayak, wetsuit, lifejacket and windproof top too, all in return for a suggested donation to the club equipment fund of £15.00 pp.
You'll be out on the water for about two hours, plus half an hour either side of this kitting up and getting changed. How can you miss such an opportunity? It's bound to be a memorable experience. Adults and older children welcome.

Gitcombe goes continental! |
There's much excitement here about out latest plans! We have added to our collection of contemporary style self catering accommodation with a chic apartment, on two levels, in the centre of the ski district of Villars, Switzerland. Set in a quiet, sunny spot, this is the view from one of the two, south facing balconies.
 The property sleeps up to 6+ infant in a cot, in 3 bedrooms, and has a kitchen plus a living/dining room, with satellite TV.
The plan is to refurbish it to the usual Gitcombe style at the end of the 2009 ski season.
Just over an hour from Geneva Airport, the apartment is close to the gondola and you can ski back down to it. You don't really need a car! It's also a beautiful spot to stay in the summer.
