A Seahorse.....? In Dartmouth....? |
April saw the opening of a great new eaterie in Dartmouth, that promises to be the 'in place'. The 'Seahorse' restaurant, a seafood and meat grill, is stylish, but informal, and family friendly too. Great food. Great pedigree. Great waterside position. What more could you ask of somewhere memorable to eat on your holiday?
Mitch Tonks, founder of the famous Fishworks restaurants group, is one of the leading lights behing this venture.
Together with his two partners, they plan to create a new dining experience for both visitors and locals. With a mediterranean style wood fired grill - fabulous for fish, marvellous for meat. And for Sunday lunch, it will produce a delicious roast!
All the signs are that it's going to be a big hit, so why not book before you visit us?
NB - exclusive to Seahorse diners, the restaurant's courtesy launch 'Pearlfisher', can collect you from the waterfront anywhere along the river Dart, from Dittisham to Dartmouth, and return you again after you have eaten! Perfect for guests at Gitcombe. You need to book this service at the time of making your reservation. Maximum 4 persons.
Open for lunch, Thursday-Sunday, and dinner Wednesday to Saturday. AlsoOpen bank holiday mondays. www.seahorserestaurant.co.uk .
Ps watch this space or e mail us at Gitcombe to express an interest in our third Gourmet weekend, taking place on 14 & 15 November 2008. This year's supper and wine tasting is at the Seahorse.

Gitcombe goes continental |
There's much excitement here about out latest plans! We have added to our collection of contemporary style self catering accommodation with a chic apartment, on two levels, in the centre of the ski district of Villars, Switzerland.Set in a quiet, sunny spot, this is the view from one of the two, south facing balconies.
The property sleeps up to 6+ infant in a cot, in 3 bedrooms, and has a kitchen plus a living/dining room, with satellite TV.
The plan is to refurbish it to the usual Gitcombe style at the end of the 2008 ski season.
One and a half hours from Geneva Airport, the apartment is close to the gondola and you can ski back down to it. You don't really need a car! It's also a beautiful spot to stay in the summer.
The newly appointed apartment should be ready for bookings in time for the next skiing season, so if you wish to register your interest in staying here or would like more information, e mail us at yve@gitcombe.co.uk or call us on 01803 712678.
In the interim, it's available for letting pre-refurbishment, until the end of the ski season. Bed linen & bath towels included. Other facilities include personal ski storage, washing machine, tumble drier (shared used), fridge, separate loo, plus bath/wc.Non smokers only please. |
Conde Nast acclaim for local beach
|
|
Blackpool Sands, Gitcombe's nearest beach, is named 'best family beach' by the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller magazine!

It cites the privately owned beach as 'well looked after and blessed with an idyllic, sheltered setting. Freshwater paddling pool, safe swimming area, lifeguards, lost child collection point and a family friendly beach cafe - the perfect combination for a family fun beach day'.
During the summer months, in the evenings, the famed Venus Cafe turns into an alfresco eaterie, serving delicious, Mediterranean-style grilled and BBQ'd suppers. What better end to a summer's day? Now extended to include Friday and Saturday evenings to 24 December 2007. And even in the colder months, when you're wrapped up snug and warm, the beach is just as perfect for bracing winter's walk.
PS - Also enjoying the spotlight is nearby bohemian Totnes rated as one of the world's funkiest towns, according to British Airways' in-flight High Life magazine! |
