Secluded in a private valley, amidst rolling hills and countryside, you’ll find Gitcombe House County Cottages. We’re just outside the village of Cornworthy, between Dartmouth and Totnes, in Devon, at the heart of the South Hams, in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', yet close to the coast and amazing beaches.
COUNTRYSIDE With the countryside on your doorstep, you’ll enjoy unparalleled views, trees, wild flowers, birds, badgers, rabbits, hares, sheep, cows, star lit skies and copious fresh air. Further afield lie the wilds of Dartmoor National Park for exploration, with its moors, tors, wild ponies and stunning river valleys.
You can even walk to one of our local pubs, straight from your cottage door, if you’re energetic and enjoy country walking. Bring a baby sling for little ones. Should it get dark, arrange a lift back to Gitcombe...otherwise it’s down to the moon and stars to guide you!
BEACHES The fabulous coastline offers safe, clean beaches and coves, even a lighthouse to visit. Beautiful Blackpool Sands, our nearest beach, and the fab Venus Cafe, is just 20 minutes drive away. Conde Nast’s Traveller magazine voted it one of the UK's best for families. Head towards Kingsbridge for more gorgeous, sandy beaches at Salcombe, Hope Cove, Bantham and Bigbury.
TOWNS Tranquil and rural as it might be here, we're just 15-20 minutes drive from the bustling waterside towns of Dartmouth and Totnes. The port of Dartmouth is a sailor’s paradise, with visiting ships and yachts to see, not to mention a steam railway and castle. Don’t forget to check out the chic boutiques, galleries and fabulous eateries. Totnes, quirky, bohemian capital of the South West, has a great market, endless independent shops to browse, not to mention vintage teashops and cafes with divine treats to tempt you.
CITIES Further afield are the historic cities of Exeter, famed for its cathedral, and Plymouth, renowned for its maritime heritage. Both offer excellent shopping, cinemas and theatres if the weather is less good.
So young or old, if swimming, sunbathing, messing about with boats, surfing, crabbing, rock-pooling, walking,
golfing, horse riding, tennis, eating out, shopping, visiting houses, gardens and animal attractions is your thing,
you’ll be spoilt for choice. See ‘plan your stay’ for more information and ideas on what to do here.

“The South Hams area is just stunning. We were lucky with the weather but the area is so beautiful and there is so much to do".
We really enjoyed visiting Dartmouth, Totnes, Dittisham (ferry to Dartmouth), Salcombe & Blackpool Sands. So many more places still to visit. The Seahorse restaurant was lovely for a seafood lunch treat! Can’t wait to get back here again!” Guests, Yennadon Barn.
